Veterans’ Memorial Dedicated In Bluff Springs Cemetery
A memorial honoring the 29 veterans buried in Bluff Springs Cemetery was dedicated during a short ceremony on Sunday afternoon, June 26. Around 50 guests attended the ceremony. Members of VFW Post 192 of Kahoka and Post 170 of Canton served as the Honor Guard.
Steve Murphy, serving as emcee, read the opening prayer.
Trustee Dorothy Higbee explained the project and the monuments emblems, recognizing each of the branches of the Armed Forces.
The monument was made possible by a gift from the Charles and Kathleen Ruddick family.
“I would like to thank everyone for coming today to honor these brave men,” Kathleen Ruddick said.
“It’s a privilege to give the honor to the those who have served us.”
The names of the veterans, which are inscribed on the back side of the monumement, were ready, and a three-volley rifle salute was fired.
Special music for the event was provided by Jason Arrowood. Lindsey Arrowood sang the National Anthem, and Ron
Hustead played “Grand Old Flag” and “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes.
A reception was held following the ceremony in the Bluff Springs Methodist Church.
