ATV Accident Claims Life of Russell Heindselman

The Missouri Highway Patrol released a report that Lewis County wildlife enthusiast, 88 year-old Russell Heindselman of 709 Route C #4, LaGrange, Missouri, was fatally injured on Monday evening, August 8, 2016, when the 2003 Polaris Sportsman ATV he was driving southbound struck a mound of dirt causing the vehicle to overturn and ejected the driver.  The vehicle landed on Heindselman and he was pronounced dead at the scene at 2100 hours by Lewis County Coroner Larry Arnold.

THE MSHP was assisted at the scene by the LaGrange Police Department, LaGrange Fire and Rescue and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.

Mr. Heindselman is a son of the late Orville and Edith Heindselman of Monticello, Mo.  They are the parents of Gregory Heindselman of LaGrange, Kelly Fast of Quincy and Matthew Heindselman of Wentzville, Mo.

They have seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Mr. Heindselman retired from Gardner-Denver Foundry in LaGrange in 1990 after 38 years of service. He is a member of the Lions Club in LaGrange and the Masonic Lodge in Canton, Mo. He does a lot of writing, enjoys gardening and participates in the Farmer’s Market in Quincy. Mr. Heindselman has been a great advocate for outdoor sports and enjoys teaching youngsters how to build bluebird boxes, the fun in fishing and the fulfillment one could find in the beauty of the earth.

Phyllis and Russell Heindselman of LaGrange, Mo., marked their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 30, 2015.  Mr. Heindselman and the former Phyllis Keller were married Oct. 30, 1955, in Central Baptist Church.  Mrs. Heindselman is a daughter of the late Matthew “Pete” and Dorothy Keller of Quincy.  Mrs. Heindselman retired from the Quincy Medical Group in 1997 after 30 years of service. Since her retirement, she has worked part time for Fast Transcription. She has volunteered at the C-1 school system in the elementary grades and also does private tutoring. She sings with the Quincy Symphony Chorus and helps with Meals on Wheels in LaGrange. They are members of First Baptist Church in LaGrange.
