Carroll graduated from Revere High School.  He worked in maintenance at the Keokuk Mall for 16 years and retired from Armour Dial in Fort Madison.  His favorite job was taking care of his farm and his cattle.

Carroll was a member of the Southern Baptist Fellowship Church in Wayland.  He had a strong faith and enjoyed discussing scripture with Jeff.   He was kind, tender hearted, and had a wisdom that came from his life experiences, knowledge,  and ability to fix something as long as you gave him “time to study it.”   He was also a “music man”, he loved old time country music and loved singing.  He had a talent for hearing and identifying songs.   He believed in working hard often saying “we’re burning daylight” or “if something is worth doing, it’s worth doing right”.  He had a deep love for his family and grandkids.  They were together almost every day and considered it a blessing to only live a mile apart on the family farm.  They spent the last several years enjoying some traveling together in which Carroll couldn’t restrain from being Jeff’s back seat driver.
