Gorden Lee Wood, age 56, of rural Kahoka, MO, died Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA, following a lengthy illness.

Gorden was born April 29, 1960 in Keokuk, IA, a son of Hugh L. “Sparky” and Betty Ellis Wood, Jr.

Survivors include three brothers: David Wood, Steve (Mary) Wood, all of Kahoka and Kevin (Deborah) Wood of Green Bay, WI; one sister, Gaylene Wood of rural Kahoka; nieces and nephews and their families: Susan and Sarah Wood, Zachary, Christina and Madison Wood, Eric, Gabriel, Matthew and Andrew Wood, Gordon Lee Wood and Joseph, Jonathan and Elizabeth Shelton; aunts and uncles: Bill Stevenson of Kahoka, George and Sandra Ellis of Keokuk, Lurena Knopp of Palmyra, Ron and Margaret Ellis of Independence, MO, Lynn Clark of Wentzville, Jackie Charleton of Palmyra and Gracie and Roland Vorwaldt of Kentucky; as well as cousins and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; one brother, Hugh L. “Spike” Wood III; a sister, Nancy Shelton; and aunts and uncles, Joy Stevenson, Patty and Leroy Chaknine, Jody Hughson and Marian Perrine.

Gorden graduated from Clark County R-1 High School with the Class of 1978. He went to work for Sheller Globe shortly after that and worked there in various positions until his health began to fail. Gorden loved keeping up to date with friends and family on the computer and spending time with them. They knew that they could always count on him for help when needed. He loved his pets and they loved him. He especially loved being with his nieces and nephews and any time spent with each was special. Gorden had a love for life and people, the gift of gab, and a heart of gold.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff, the doctors, nurses, and all at the University of IA SNICU, Burn Unit, and Pallative Unit, for their support, their love and all they did to make Gordon and his family a part of theirs.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 5 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Pastors Ray Gilbert and Doug Amis officiating. Private inurnment will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.

Friends may register at Wilson Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday with family receiving from 4 p.m. until time of service at 5.
