John Thomas “Tom” “Duke” Engler, 60, of Keokuk, IA, died Saturday, January 6, 2018 at Unity Point Health-Keokuk.
He was born on February 27, 1957 in Keokuk, IA, the son of John “Jack” and Marilyn Browning Engler. He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1976.
On June 27, 1987, Tom was united in marriage to Peggy Walker in Keokuk. She survives.
He is also survived by one son, Philip Engler of Keokuk, one sister, Louann Engler of Hoffman Estates, IL, one brother, Larry Engler (Kris) of Pleasant Hill, IA, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews, one aunt, Eleanor Carter of Keokuk, one sister –in-law, Jeanie Clark (Lester) of Keokuk, two brothers-in-law, Robert Walker, Jr. (Susie) of Revere, MO and Stuart Walker (Krista) of Wyaconda, MO, and his father-in-law, Robert Walker, Sr. of Alexandria, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his mother-in-law, Wanda Walker.
Tom had been employed at the Lee County Department of Corrections as a dispatcher and corrections officer. He had also worked for Securitas Security at Roquette and as a courier at St. Central Bank both in Keokuk.
He was a faithful member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Keokuk. He had served on the church Building and Property Committee.
Tom enjoyed listening to the scanner and watching TV. He also enjoyed tinkering on cars and trying to fix just about anything. He loved visiting with his friends and spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Keokuk with Pastor David Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Sand Cemetery in St. Francisville, MO.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to First Christian Church or to the donor’s choice.
