Eastern Star Supports Honor Flight

The Kahoka Chapter # 40 Order of the Eastern Star presented a check for $1600.00 to Great River Honor Flight on May 16th. Worthy Matron Gloria Macomber met with Carlos Fernandez, General Manager of WGEM who is director of Great River. Mr. Fernandez said this will enable them to send 5 or 6 veterans depending on commercial flight costs.

The Masonic Home of Missouri had matched funds raised by the Kahoka Chapter. The chapter had hosted a card and bingo party for the public with a supper in March for the Honor Flight. Great River Honor Flight was started on Veterans Day 2009. The first mission went in April, 2010. Since then there have been 47 total trips to DC. They have been able to take 1,545 local WWII, Korea and now Vietnam veterans to DC to see their memorials for FREE. Currently there is a waiting list of about 250 veterans-mostly Vietnam. For those veterans who served in either WWII or Korea, they are moved to the top of the list due to age. Four more flights are scheduled for 2018 with the next one coming out of Quincy on Saturday, June 9th.
