        MIKE MCGINNIS

 

Lawrence Michael (Mike) McGinnis, age 75, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018, at his home east of Edina.

He was born august 18, 1942, in Quincy, Illinois, the son of Bernard Joseph and Elizabeth D. (Betty) Nickell McGinnis.  He was united in marriage to Janice Bishop on May 15, 1971, in the St. Joseph Catholic church in Edina, Missouri.

Mike graduated from Edina High School in 1960 and graduated from Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in 1965.  Mike served in the Army Reserves for six years.  He was engaged in farming southeast of Edina his whole life.  Mike served as Knox County Commissioner of the Eastern District for ten years.  He was a member and President of the Knox County Democratic Committee for fifty years and was Past Chairman of the 9th District Democratic Committee.  Mike was a member and served as Treasure of the Troublesome Creek Water Shed District, Past President of Edina Country Club, a member of the Baring Country Club, a member and past President of St. Joseph School Board, member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a 4th Degree member of the Knight of Columbus. Mike enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Janice McGinnis; two children, Kara Lynn McGinnis of Edina, Missouri, and Kevin Michael (Pamela) McGinnis of St. Joseph, Missouri; two grandchildren, Kelton and Kenzie McGinnis of St. Joseph, Missouri; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna Stockham and fiancée, Bruce Normile, of Baring, Missouri, Sue (Dick) Johnson of Baring, Missouri, Dan (Judi) Bishop of Baring, Missouri, Brenda (Mike) Beckner of Corydon, Iowa, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters-in-law; Jack and Mary Bishop, J.W. Bishop, Kenneth Stockham, Judy Bishop and Mike and Carol Lee Bishop.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 A.M. Wednesday, July 18, 2018, in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Edina, Missouri, with Father Colin Franklin officiating for the services.  Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Jim Ragland, Paul Ten Eyck, Ardie Syfert, Pete Bangert, Kevin Strange and Jack Reardon as casket bearers.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2018, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with a Prayer service to be held at 5 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
