DOROTHY M. ROSS

Dorothy M. Ross, age 95, of Kahoka, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
Dorothy was born at home on October 1, 1922, in Clark County, the daughter of Clarence and Ruby Ellison Hunziker.

She attended Antioch school through eighth grade and walked each day with her brother. She graduated from Kahoka High School in 1941. Following graduation, she worked for Sears/Jayne Law Office and stayed at a boarding home in Kahoka.
On December 24, 1944, she married Laverne M. Ross in Greentop, MO. They were blessed with three children: Larry Laverne, Mary Ann, and Marilyn Sue.

Laverne and Dorothy worked together in their chain saw business for 40 years, beginning with McCulloch, Homelite and Stihl. Dorothy was always willing to help. They were able to take several trips through their business and made many friends. In addition, Dorothy raised chickens, gardened, and canned. With the addition of our precious, Marilyn Sue, mom was a constant caregiver.

Dorothy was also a faithful member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and a member of the former Evening Women’s Fellowship. She and Laverne enjoyed bowling and playing cards with friends.

She loved her family. All the grandkids and greats knew Grandma Dorothy would have treats when they visited. She was a great cook and chocolate chip cookies were always available.

Dorothy maintained her independence until three years ago. She had been a resident at the Clark Co. Nursing home the past two years. She never complained and always attended activities. The nursing home has been a blessing to her family.
She is survived by Larry and his family: Jamie (Jenny) Ross – Will, Luke (Hannah), Anna and Emma; Kevin (Mandy) Ross – Karlee, Jade, Hope and Kole; Carrie (Troy) Hamner – Elly and Kaden.
