DOROTHY SHANLEY

Dorothy Alice Shanley, 96, of Edina, Missouri, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri.
Dorothy was born on April 25, 1922, in Dewey County, Oklahoma, the daughter of Huber and Amy “Dolly” Freeman England.
On April 13, 1940, in Arapaho, Oklahoma, Dorothy married Marvin Nathen Shanley, to this union three children were born and they celebrated 52 years together before her husband passed away in 1992.
Dorothy and family moved to Knox County, Missouri in 1949, where she worked on the farm, milked, gardened, canned, made many delicious pies, loved to cook for her family and baby sit her grandchildren.   Through the years she was a school bus driver, worked at the Edina Glove Factory, and the Edina Dry Cleaners.
She enjoyed sewing, hand stitched many quilts, crocheted hundreds of pot holders, and gave them away to family, friends and to Edina business employees at Christmas.
She and her husband, Marvin, loved to camp and pulled their camper to visit almost every state in the USA, as well as Canada and Mexico. Dorothy was a member of the Colony and Edina Methodist Churches.
She is survived by two daughters, Edna Rosella and Tommy Small of Edina, Missouri, and Marlene Shirley and Bob Crowe of Oskaloosa, Kansas; a sister, Vera Burgin of Swannanoa, North Carolina; ten grandchildren, Kevin and Tabitha Shanley of Edina, Missouri, Karen Shanley and Kim Meinhardt of Memphis, Missouri, Ron Shanley of Hoyt, Kansas, Kimmy and Brad Clements of Hoyt, Kansas, Dorsey and Suzanne Small of Louisburg, Kansas, Dean and Cate Small of Denver, Colorado, Erin Small of Columbia, Missouri, Bobby and Angelic Crowe of St. John’s, Indiana, Heather and Jeff Salmon of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Bill and Rosie Crowe of Satellite Beach, Florida; thirty-one great grandchildren; fourteen great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Alvin Edgar Shanley; two daughter-in-laws, Virginia Witherow Shanley and Martha Habig Shanley; three brothers, Glen in infancy, Walter at age seventeen, and Bob E. England; three sisters, Alma Hatter, Edna Parrish, and Vergie Guion, three sister-in-laws, Wanda England, Edna Kirk, and Marion Williams; five brother-in-laws, Marvin Hatter, Lloyd Parrish, Howard Guion, Jim Burgin and Jack Williams.
Funeral Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 1, 2018, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation will be on Monday, from 12:00 till service time at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Colony Cemetery in Colony, Missouri.
Pastor Dave Ballast of Oskaloosa, Kansas will officiate and her grandsons, Kevin Shanley, Ron Shanley, Dorsey Small, Dean Small, Bobby Crowe, and Bill Crowe will be her casket bearers.
