MILDRED SCHAFFER

 

Mildred Louise Schaffer, 102, of Quincy, Illinois, formerly of La Grange, Missouri, died November 8, 2018, at Good Samaritan Home in Quincy.   Born on September 7, 1916, Mildred was the first child of Solon and Atha Wolfe Silvey.

Mildred attended Gem City Business College and then Culver-Stockton College in Canton, graduating in 1939. She married Harold J. Schaffer August 17, 1940 in Lewistown, MO.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, sister Elaine (Raymond) VanMeter and brother Elden (Bernadine) Silvey. Her three children survive her: Nancy Cain of Tulsa, OK, John (Carol) Schaffer of Bonita Springs, FL, Bruce Schaffer of Carrabelle, FL, as well as five grandchildren: Amy Campbell, Stephanie Schaffer, David Schaffer, Allison(Julian) Perez, and Kelly Rankin. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren.

Mildred was a farm wife, a mother, grandmother, an English and French teacher, and a friend to many in her community. She played bridge with the same group of friends for over 50 years. Her interest in reading and learning spanned her lifetime, and love of her family filled her heart.

Memorial services will be held Friday, December 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Good Samaritan Home Chapel in Quincy, IL.

The family suggests meorials be made to Good Samaritan Home in Quincy or to the Canton Christian Church.
