Frederick Bertram

                                                     FREDERICK NELSON BERTRAM
     Frederick Nelson Bertram, age 84, of Gorin, MO, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at the Scotland County Hospital following a brief illness.
     Fred was born February 1, 1935 in the family home to Nelson and Etsil (Cunningham) Bertram.
     On August 11, 1964, Fred was united in marriage to Virginia (Hyde) Bertram.
     In addition to his wife, Virginia, Fred is survived by his children Tina (Kirk) Townsend of Wyaconda and Lexington, MO, Tracy (Leslie) Waterman of Donnellson, IA and Timothy Bertram of Kahoka, MO; six grandchildren: Bradley (Marci) Waterman of Marion, IA, Joshua Townsend and fiancé Taylar Eggleston-Wood of Gorin and Arbela, MO, Taylor Waterman and special friend Cole Courtney of Donnellson, IA, Danielle Townsend of Wyaconda, MO, and Drew Bertram and Chloe Bertram, both of Kahoka, MO.  He is also survived by his brother, Albert Bertram of Simpsonville, MD and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Carol (Don) Bundy of Blue Springs, MO, Margaret Hyde of Independence, MO, Kathy Hyde of Conway, MO, Asie Boatman of Kahoka, MO, Barbara (Norman) Hughes of Kirksville, MO and Leland (Delores) Hyde of Memphis, MO; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
     He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Hollis and Nellie Hyde; and an infant grandson.
     Fred was a 1953 graduate of Wyaconda High School and attended the University of Missouri.  He was very active in the community.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wyaconda, Scotland County Soil and Water District, Wyaconda Rural Fire Board, and served as a school board member 16 years for the Wyaconda C-1 School District.  Fred never met a stranger and enjoyed weekly card games with his Wyaconda buddies.  In addition to his love for his family, was his love for his farm.  Fred remained on the farm, sleeping in the bedroom he was born in, until his recent illness.
     He took over his parents farming operation beginning in 1963 and continued to work the farm until his health no longer allowed.  He instilled in his children and grandchildren a love of country living and the value of a hard day’s work.  He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
    Funeral services were held Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka with Bro. Ben Wheeler officiating.  Special music was recordings “I Can Only Imagine” and “Daddy’s Hands”.
    Honorary pallbearers were George Steele, Jim Schmitz, Earl Oberholtzer, Rodney Smith, Allen Fitzgerald and Bill Grashoff.
    Pallbearers were Bradley Waterman, Joshua Townsend, Cole Courtney, Bob Thompson, Lance Boatman, and Michael Hyde.
    Burial was in the Wyaconda Cemetery, Wyaconda, MO.
    Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Wyaconda, the Wyaconda Rural Fire Department, or Gorin Rural Fire Department.
