RUTH VAUGHN
Mrs. Ruth Vaughn, 84 of Columbia, Missouri passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 in her home.
The daughter of Clifton and Velva Tompkins Smith, Ruth was born on December 20, 1934 in Monticello, Missouri.
She was united in marriage to Stephen Vaughn on June 20, 1954, at the Lewistown Christian Church in Lewistown, Missouri. Ruth and Stephen raised five boys together, and celebrated their 65th anniversary in the summer of 2019.
Ruth was a member of the Lewistown Christian Church where she faithfully served as the secretary and treasurer on the church board and played the organ and piano for 30 years. She most recently attended the Oakland Christian Church in Columbia. She worked at Cook’s Men’s Store, Selby Implement Company, and served as Collector for the City of Lewistown. Ruth had many hobbies, including tending a vibrant garden. Over her lifetime, her family, friends, and church members were the lucky recipients of her homemade pies, cakes, sugar cookies, and handmade quilts, all crafted with an abundance of love. Ruth enjoyed her time as a member of the Quincy YMCA swim club (Dick’s Dolphins) and continued to swim into her 70s. Above all, her greatest joys in life were her children and grandchildren. She will be missed in great measure by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Stephen Vaughn, of Columbia, Mo.; five sons, Stephen (Phyllis) Vaughn, Jr. of Winchester, Va., Doug (Brenda) Vaughn of Ewing, Mo., Todd (Connie) Vaughn of Kearney, Mo., Tim (Lisa) Vaughn of Columbia, Mo. and Jon Vaughn of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; four grandchildren, Bethany Vaughn (Ryan), Kimberly (Andrew) Greenbaum, Stephen D. Vaughn, and Jessica (Cooper) Martin, step-grandchildren Aaron Bell and Michelle (Jim) Sidoti; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley Anderson of Yuma, Az. and Linda (Larry) Kennedy of Lincoln, Ne., a sister-in-law, Jeanie (Jim) Genenbacher and several nieces & nephews.
Her parents and her brother, Buddy Smith, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown, Missouri with Jackie Kennedy and Pastor Delbert Earlywine officiating. Burial will be in the Lewistown Cemetery.
Visitation was held Tuesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of services at Arnold’s Funeral Home in Lewistown.
Memorial contributions may be made to Boone Hospital Home Care & Hospice or the donor’s organization of choice.
