Vance Ray Parrish, age 75, of Knox City, Missouri, passed away October 14, 2019, at his favorite place, his farm. He was born February 23rd, 1944, in his childhood home by Newark, Missouri, and was the son of Ernest “Deacon” Parrish and Helen Arment Parrish. He was united in marriage to Dixie Hathaway on October 18th, 1968, at the Christian Church in Greensburg, Missouri.

Surviving are his wife Dixie Parrish of Knox City, Missouri; three children, Amee Jo (Randy) Shultz of Edina, MO, Angela Wilson of Edina, MO, Justin (Betsy) Parrish of Knox City, MO; one brother, Richard “Dick” (Sue) Parrish of Sedalia, MO; nine grandchildren, Kisha(Brandon) Lay, Deanna (Ben) Rowland, Andrew (Taylar) Parrish, Chaise (Cortney) Stull, Austin Stull, Reid (Lisa) Stull, Alekah Wilson, Blake Parrish, and Hannah Parrish; fifteen great grandchildren, Kelsey Shultz, Lance Hudson, Barrett Maxwell, Dayton Rowland, Marshall Rowland, Devron Holliday, Peyton Stull, Nevaeh Holliday, Paxton Stull, Maci Stull, Deacon Stull, Bailey Parrish, Ryann Parrish; Sister’s-in-Law Barbara (James) Folkerts, Linda (Harold) Barnes; Brother’s-in-Law Jackie (Sheila) Hathaway, David Hathaway; and several nieces and nephews.

Vance was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Ty Parrish; and mother and father-in-law, Lloyd “Donk” and Betty Hathaway.

Vance received his education at Edina Elementary, and High School. Upon graduation he went off to basic training where he was in the Army Reserves for 6 years. He held numerous jobs, he worked construction out of Herzog Lumber Co in Knox City with great friends (Byron Ewalt, Gene Hayes, Mark Klocke, and Mike Hayes), was a traveling feed salesman for Moorman’s Mfg., where he made numerous friends, and then was elected and served as the Knox County Assessor for 12 years with where he made many friend in the Knox County court house (and a few enemies for raising people’s taxes). But when we asked him what profession he wanted to be known as, to no surprise it was Farmer, which is what he started doing with his father after graduating basic training. He was a member of Bee Ridge United Methodist Church, enjoyed singing and entertaining with his good friends from the Show Me 4 quartet (Gordon Cloyd, David Parrish, Joe Pettit),loved restoring, parading and pulling antique tractors with good friends (Larry Lumley, Lynn Douglas), coaching his daughters softball teams, playing an occasional card game (always winning), spending time with his family, and most of all hunting and fishing with his friends, family, and especially grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held 11 AM Friday October 18, 2019, in the Hudson Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO

Burial will be in the Bee Ridge Cemetery.  Reverend Graig Connell will officiate the services.  Music will be provided by his niece, Teilla Parrish.

Casket bearers will be Sean Bonnell, Chase Brenizer, Mark Klocke, Merle Klocke, Dan Devlin, Dale Dent, and Stanley Weiler.

Honorary bearers will be Joe Pettit, Jack Reardon, Ray Prebe, Jim Gibbons, Larry Hayes, Wayne Dyer, Larry Lumley, Eldon Parrish, Mike Kinsel, David Parrish and Roger Griffith.

Visitation will be held Thursday October 17th, 2019 after 5:00 pm at the Hudson Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
