McCaskill Announces Funding for Improving the Quality of Life in Hannibal

WASHINTON, D.C.U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill today announced a grant award of $19,561 from the National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund.  The funding is awarded to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and designated to the City of Hannibal.  It will be used to develop a trail in Riverview Park along the Mississippi River.  The trail will be bordered on each side by a four foot fence to provide safety for trail users.

“Recreational activities have been proven to lead to a higher quality of life,” said McCaskill.  “It is important that we create environments that encourage people to experience Missouri’s beauty.”

Senator McCaskill believes that federal grants are a positive alternative to earmarks, which have in the past been authorized during a secretive process with little accountability.  Competitive federal grants bring federal assistance to Missouri in an honest and fiscally responsible manner.
