Josephine Elizabeth Knapp Karhoff, age 101, of Edina, Missouri, died Saturday afternoon, July 24, 2010 in the Knox County Nursing Home, near Edina, MO.
Mrs. Karhoff, was born January 17, 1909, the third daughter of Joseph Clement and Mary Elizabeth Herr Knapp. She was born in Edina and lived on a farm part of her life as well as in Edina.
Josephine Knapp graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1928 in a class of four members. She was shy by nature, a trait inherited by numerous members of the Knapp family.
She married Leo Cletus Karhoff at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Edina, on September 8, 1930, with the Rev. Terrence Mullins as celebrant.
Mrs. Karhoff was one of ten children, and is survived by a sister, Rita Knapp Fessler, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her only child, William Francis Karhoff, who died in November 1949, at the age of seventeen. Also preceding her in death were Mrs. Karhoff’s parents, her brothers John, Joseph, Frank and Paul Knapp and sisters, Clementine Dromey, Mildred Pettit, Dorothy Johnson and Ruth Anderson.
Mrs. Karhoff worked at the glove factory in Edina many years ago and as a companion and caregiver for invalids in Kansas City for a number of years. She was an excellent cook and housekeeper, gardener, and seamstress. She also cared for family members when they needed help.
She enjoyed playing cards, quilting, reading and visits with family and friends, and was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. A lasting gift to her family was her work in researching and recording genealogy and family history for a great number of relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Edina, by the Rev. Joseph Hoi on Monday, July 26, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour before Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.
Music will be provided by Nancy Reardon, organist and Brent Karhoff, soloist.
Casket bearers will be Dick Anderson, Jim Knapp, Will Gleckler, John Fessler, John Dean, and Alex Fessler.
