New Edina VFD Water Tanker Truck Arrives

 By Echo Menges

Edina, Mo. – Edina Volunteer Fire Chief Martin Edwards and Assistant Fire Chief Tom Morgret are excited to announce the arrival of a new piece of equipment that significantly increases the amount of water available to volunteer firefighters when fighting fires, and is set to become the backbone of the department’s firefighting fleet.

The Edina Volunteer Fire Department’s new 1,800-gallon tanker truck arrived on Sept. 20, 2024.

It is now the largest water supply truck owned by the EVFD, which already operates a 1,500-gallon tanker truck, a 1,300-gallon pumper truck, a 1,300-gallon pumper/tanker truck, and two smaller trucks, each with 300-gallon tanks.

The 1999 tanker truck is equipped with a CAT 7.2 diesel engine, a built-in rack to house the drop tank, water dump capability from either side of the truck, an automatic chute extension, and equipment compartments.

The tanker truck was purchased for $40,000 with only 15,000 miles on it. Rural fire dues covered the majority of the cost, $35,000, with the City of Edina contributing $5,000.

Edwards and Morgret traveled to Detroit, Michigan, to pick up the tanker truck and drove it back to Edina over two days.

Dedra Overstreet and Dee Railed Designs in Edina have been hired to design and produce new decals for the tanker truck.
