Maywood News
By Rachel Bringer
We had some nice rain this past week, and the weekend was beautiful. The irises and peonies continue to bloom, and the boys’ goats are enjoying the blooms on the multiflora roses!!
South Union Baptist Church met for worship today, and Brother Dan preached a Mother’s Day message from Ephesians 6:2 titled “Lovin’ Our Mommas.” John Carter provided a special Mother’s Day song, “Mother Knows,” from the Broadman Hymnal. Sharon Rathbun was welcomed back, and Julianna brought donuts for everyone in celebration of Mother’s Day! In Sunday School, the children studied the Ten Commandments, and they distributed petunias toall the women at the church service. Children’s Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday, and all are welcome!
Brother Randy Davis, who is the chalk artist evangelist from Branson, notified the church that he suffered a fall and is having hip surgery this month. Therefore, he will be unable to have services in Maywood at the end of May; however, he has rescheduled the services for October 23, 24, and 25th. Brother Davis visited South Union a few years ago, and we are looking forward to seeing him in October!
On Saturday, Rachel, Luke, Jacob, and Elijah Shepherd attended a birthday party for Bella Turner at Bob Mays Park in Quincy, Illinois. While at the party, the Shepherds saw their neighbor Julie Redd, who was attending a nearby surprise birthday party at the park for Angel Powers of Maywood! The party was also for Angel’s grandson, Bryer, who was turning one year old, and the family surprised Angel by honoring her at the party too! Bryer’s parents are Isaiah and Zoe Powers, and Zoe’s parents cooked supper on the grill for the family at the park. It was a perfect, sunny afternoon to celebrate these birthday milestones, and the park was a lovely setting, with plenty of room for the children to burn off a lot of cake-fueled energy!
Sunday was the deadline to register animals for the Marion County Fair in August, and Canton Vet Clinic helped several 4-H families (including us) in obtaining the necessary identification tags for children’s 4-H projects. Congratulations to Maggie Kreitemeyer, whose artwork was selected for the cover of the 2026 Junior Fair Book!
Congratulations to Myrtle Mae’s Restaurant on celebrating its one year anniversary this
weekend!
