May 8, 1901

Born, to the wife of Tilden E. Walden, Friday night, a 10 pound boy. Mother and babe are doing nicely. Samuel Walden, wife and little son, of Withers Mill, spent Sunday with their son, Tilden of this city.
Thos. E. Vannoy, known familiarly as “Uncle Ep,” died at his home in Warren township
at 3 a.m., after an illness of less than a week of pneumonia.
Wm. J. Terrill, an old citizen of Warren township, died of pneumonia last Friday night
and buried Sunday.
Miss Inez Smith of Hannibal, well known in Palmyra, and Mr. Chas. M. Morris, also of
Hannibal, will be married May 23.
A train load of threshing machines and engines passed through Palmyra Thursday. The
train consisted of twenty cars and each car contained one engine and one threshing
machine, all gaily decorated in flags and bunting. The machinery was being shipped to
Kansas.
The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. John Drescher died Saturday.
June Johnson, son of Collector C. J. Johnson, who has been attending school in Auburn, Alabama, returned home Friday to spend his summer vacation. He has secured a position with a United States Geological Surveying party now operating in Missouri and Iowa. He will work only during his vacation and then return to school.
Marvin Bishop came in from Kansas the first of the week and spent several days with home folks.

Dr. H. Hinds, veterinary surgeon, who recently purchased the blacksmith shop east of the court house from Wm. Burkhardt, has had the building remodeled for his office and is now occupying same.
W.P. Johnson, one of the Palmyra Fair directors, went over to Paris Saturday to hear the old fiddlers state contest. An old fiddlers contest is to be held in Palmyra the first day of the Fair and it is expected there will be a large number of entries from over the state.
J. M.Tate, of Hannibal, spent the week end with his daughter, Mrs. Pete Weyand, in this city.
Miss Opal Crane, teacher of Cloverdale school, who has been out of school on account of illness for several weeks, resumed her school work last Wednesday.
Mrs. Gerald Losson and children, who have been guests of her mother, Mrs. Willia Muldrow, left Saturday for Detroit, Michigan, where Mr. Losson has located.
S.G. Watters and wife were shopping in Hannibal Saturday evening, Miss Edith returning with them for a few days rest.
Mrs. Walter Summers spent last Saturday in Quincy with her father, J. K. Randalls, who is in the hospital in that city.
Marion Million, who is a member of the Palmyra High School 1926 Senior class will take a position in the C. E. Leggett Pharmacy at the close of school.
Mary, twelve year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wellman, while taking exercise on a trapeze at school Monday, fell and broke her left arm at the shoulder.

Sixty-four seniors will be graduated from the Palmyra High School on Thursday night,
May 15. The class is composed of twenty-eight boys and thirty-six girls and is one of the
big classes in the history of the school.
Fagan Food store has installed grocery carts to be used by customers for self service.
The carts are about three feet high, consisting of a sturdy wire basket supported by a metal framework. The four small wheels are rubber-tired, and are so constructed as to make turning and moving easy.
Miss Ruby Wharton has been employed at Weyand’s Cafe.
Lynn Stuhlman celebrated his fourth birthday Monday afternoon at the home of his parents, Dr. and Mrs. P. H. Stuhlman.
Mr. and Mrs. Fred C. Cunningham of Taylor are the parents of an 8-1/4 pound son, born
Wednesday evening, April 30. He has been named William Everett.
Mr. and Mrs. Austin Begley spent Sunday with her mother, Mrs. Meyers and son, of Quincy.
Mrs. George Saffarrans Jr., and daughter, Mary Jo, are spending several days with Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Saffarrans and daugther, Maurie.
Herbert Kroeger of St. Peters spent the week end with his father, John Kroeger and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wharton of Ewing, attended services at the Baptist church, Sunday, and visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arch Pugh.

Mr. and Mrs. William Schaffer were honored at a reception in their home on Sunday evening, April 25. The event was hosted by their sons, Bill Schaffer and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Schaffer.
Belinda Foster, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Foster of Palmyra, will be installed as worthy advisor of the Palmyra Rainbow Girls Assembly 68, on Sunday afternoon, May 16.
By popular vote, Mrs. Kathryn Jacobs was crowned queen of the First Baptist Church
Adult II Sunday School Spring Banquet April 29. She received her crown from Mrs. Lee
Menge, last year’s queen.
Tesa Renee Bounds, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Bounds, celeb rated her first birthday on May 7.
Mike Foster, son of Mr. and MRs. Don Foster, was named the Outstanding Athlete by the coaches of Palmyra High School at the annual athletic awards night. Other awards were, football, outstanding offensive lineman, Greg Foster, oustanding defensive lineman, Maynard Oesch; basketball, boys outstanding defensive player, David Wiesemann, outstanding offensive player, Mike Foster, girls outstanding offensive player, Mary Ellen Gottman, outstanding defensive player, Betsy Glascock; and outstanding golfer, Brent Lehenbauer.
Members of the Palmyra City Council and the Palmyra R-I Board of Education have set
Wednesday, May 19, with the date for the formal dedication of the four new tennis
courts at the Palmyra High School.

The Palmyra City Council okayed the new Parks and Recreation budget, but postponed action on a utility budget during the regular meeting Thursday.
Palmyra’s siren may be quieter now, but the flap over it may be getting louder. A siren was placed on a new timer that keeps it from sounding on Sunday’s and the siren was toned down somewhat.
Dear Editor, I just celebrated my 75th birthday, was born and raised just west of Palmyra. Back then as a child, the “six o’clock whistle” meant that soon my whole family would be home from work and we would be sitting down to “supper”, which Mother had prepared. Our clocks were set by these whistles!
The parents of Kindsey Lou Shade, Columbia, Missouri, announce the engagement of their daughter to Darin Duane Redd, Columbia. Shade is the daughter of Kim and Brenda Shade, Palmyra; and Redd is the son of Millie Redd and the late Duane Redd, Palmyra
