Maple Lawn Auxiliary Meets

The Maple Lawn Auxiliary held its regular monthly meeting at 1:30 pm May 28, 2026, at Maple Lawn Nursing Home in the main dining room. Nine members answered roll call with their response to “What flowers do you have blooming?”

The gem of the day was “Aging is not lost youth, but a new stage of opportunity and strength.”

President Janet Taylor called the meeting to order with the Pledge of Allegiance.The minutes of the April 26 meeting were read by Secretary Wendy Nelson and approved. President Taylor presented the financial report, and it was approved.

In old business,The Car Show was cancelled due to a hailstorm on May 16. It has been rescheduled for May 30. Nine residents attended the Golden Age Games held at HLG University in Hannibal on May 15. A fun time was had by all attendees, and a number of medals were won by the residents.

In new business, President Taylor reported from the Maple Lawn Board of Directors that the alarm system is being replaced, and the outdoor areas are being updated. Activities Director Alice Humphrey updated the Auxiliary on the upcoming activities. Picnics are planned for June. Outdoor chairs for the residents were generously donated by the Schaefer family. Alice purchased the flowers and plants for the Unit garden. The Palmyra High School Horticulture department graciously donated flowers for planting around the facility.

The program was presented by Darby Rollins, Miss Clark County Teen. She discussed the children’s book she has written “The Day I Raised My Hand,” which is her personal story and the struggles she had in school with Dyslexia. She also discussed her participation inthe upcoming Miss Missouri pageant.

The meeting was adjourned and delicious refreshments were provided by Debbie Potterfield.

The next meeting will be held Thursday, June 25, 2026, at 1:30 pm at Maple Lawn. The host will be Teresa Mahsman. Prospective members are always welcome to attend.
