Taylor News

As I sit here typing up this column, it is raining in the Taylor area. We have had a beautiful past week, with some rain, beautiful sunshine, and temperatures that were really great for the middle of June. I think the way the forecast looks, this upcoming week will have a lot of
rain; we will see how true that will be.
It is so exciting to see that the Taste Freeze in Palmyra will be opening again. They have built a new building between the Farmers Co-op and Panther Mart on the south end of Palmyra. The opening date has not been announced, but hopefully it will be open very soon.
It was a very sad day in West Quincy on Monday, June 15, when Haymakers caught on fire and burned to the ground. Very heavy smoke could be seen from Hannibal Regional Hospital that day, and flames were seen for miles. Multiple fire departments, including Palmyra, Quincy and Canton, were on the scene for hours.
Water was transported from Quincy due to being unable to use the drainage ditches because of all the debris in them. Thank goodness no one was hurt, and all the employees and customers were evacuated immediately. All or most of the employees have been relocated to another Neimann Foods store in the local area.
Congratulations to Melanie (Martin) Garner, daughter of Dennis and Kathy Martin, who earned the ICARE Award of Excellence at Blessing Health in Hannibal, Missouri. Melanie
earned this award for her consistency, initiative and heart for service. All of these qualities and many more earned Melanie this amazing award. Melanie works as the Urology Patient
Access Representative. Melanie was nominated by her coworkers for this amazing award.
I adopted two baby kittens this past week that had been dropped off at a friend’s house, and they could not keep them. I have totally enjoyed the two boy kittens, Rip and Casey, who have kept me company. It has been fun watching them play.
Saturday was the Third Annual Marion County Farm Bureau Trap Shoot, which was held at the West Quincy Gun Club on the third Saturday of June. This annual event is how we are
able to award students with scholarship money at the end of the year. Three of our scholarship winners were in attendance to receive their checks: Emma Meyer, Marissa Gottman and Kalyn Dowell. We had several teams show up to shoot, enjoy the food stand
and take part in the silent auction. It was a great day, and we are looking forward to next
year.
I attended my neighbor’s little girls’ birthday party on Saturday afternoon. London is 6, Presley is 4 and Michelle Smith is 2. I also got to meet baby Owen, who is 3 months old. With
me subbing at PES, I became friends with Miss London. The kids enjoyed swimming, water gun fights, riding on a barrel train and playing with their cousins and friends. They are
great neighbors, and it was a very enjoyable afternoon.
I was able to attend Larry and Helen Huber’s 40th wedding anniversary, Herb and Alice Schwartz’s 50th anniversary, Phil and Rose Mudd’s 25th anniversary, Gloria Schwartz’s
60th birthday and Pauline Jones’ 65th birthday celebration on Saturday night at the
American Legion Hall. It was great to see all of the families and their kids, who my kids grew
up with and have been very close with. There were many family members and friends in attendance to help the couples celebrate their anniversaries and birthdays. It was a very lovely event.
Kim and Janie Triplett made a trip to Indiana for the ASJA Eastern Regional Cattle Show.
Also attending for the last couple of days were Luke and Carley Triplett and Henry Whetstone. While there, Janie participated in some Barn Olympic Games, including blowup horse races, feed sack races and pedal tractor races, just to name a few. Janie won ninth
overall owned purebred heifer. They even had to deal with some huge rainstorms that showed up. Congratulations, Janie, on all of your hard work.
The family was also able to spend some time with Boyd on Saturday, who was celebrating his 25th birthday, at Kauffman Stadium watching the Cardinals and Royals play baseball. Kim’s
mom was also able to attend, and she is a huge Royals fan.

Palmyra. Condolences to the entire family.
Our community was saddened to hear of the passing of Pastor Steve Barker. Pastor Steve passed away on Saturday, June 13, at Blessing Hospital after a short illness.
