CLAYTON ALFRED HUSTEAD

Clayton Alfred Hustead, age 87, of Colony, Missouri, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 14, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. Born June 8, 1939, in Colony, Missouri, to parents, Granville David and Mary Isalona Hustead.

Clayton was united in marriage to Carrol Jean Tibbs, February 6, 1959, in Gorin, Missouri, and to this union four children were born.

Surviving are his wife, Carrol, of Colony and three daughters, Christy (Rocky) Riekeberg of Colony, MO, Carla (Ash) Hustead of Edina, MO, and Cherrie (Larry) Fraley of Edina, MO; daughter-in-law, Gale Hustead of Colony; one brother-in-law, Dean (Beverly) Tibbs of Eagen, MN, and grandchildren, Arron Hustead of Washington, MO, Andrew (Tylere) Hustead of Quincy, IL, Eli Riekeberg of West Branch, IA, Tyler (and friend Jennifer) Fraley of Edina, MO and Mackenzie (Tevin) Riddle of Columbia, MO, as well as great grandchildren, Oliver and Omelia Hustead, along with faithful companion, Buddy.

Clayton was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Hustead; parents, Granville and Mary Hustead; and father and mother-in-law, Marvin and Marie Tibbs.

Clayton attended and graduated from La Belle High School in La Belle, Missouri, in 1959. After graduation, he became an entrepreneur. Clayton & Son owned and operated the Colony Store for nearly 50 years before retiring in November 2025. He ventured into farming, trucking, selling machinery, hauling, and selling summer produce along with attending different flea markets and auctions. Clayton loved all kinds of gambling and could often be seen at the boat, shooting dice, or playing cards. In his younger days, he was an avid deer hunter with many tales to tell. He enjoyed St Louis Cardinal games and was a past season ticket holder. Clayton was a member of the Colony Methodist Church.

Clayton’s greatest joys came from spending time with family; often going out to eat, taking a ride to look for wildlife, seeing how the crops were doing, and checking on farm animals. He never knew a stranger and loved to sit and visit.

Visitation was on Friday, June 19, 2026, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Private graveside services were officiated by Reverend Carrol Davenport at the Colony Cemetery in Colony MO.

Pallbearers were Arron Hustead, Andrew Hustead, Eli Riekeberg, Tyler Fraley, Tevin Riddle, and Zach Jansen.

Honorary Bearers were Rocky Riekeberg, Ash Bulechek, Larry Fraley, Jerry Shultz, Scott Jansen, Richard Compton, Von Snow, and Jeff Whan.
