Charles R. Berry


   Charles Robert "Chuck" Berry, born December 10, 1928 in Edina, MO, died November 2, 2007. He is survived by his wife Connie Berry of Las Cruces, NM, daughter Daphne Berry of Las Cruces, NM, daughter Michelle Robbins and husband David of Rio Rancho, NM; three brothers, Francis Berry and wife Dottie of Anaheim, CA, J.C. Berry and wife Dorothy of Edina, MN, Richard W. Berry and wife Barbara of Mesa, AZ; one sister Elizabeth Poole of Cedar Falls, IA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends. Mr. Berry was preceded in death by his parents Stanley R. Berry and Cleo B. (Perry) Berry, a brother Stanley G. "Deacon" Berry, and a sister, Katherine L. Barnett.
   Charles enlisted in the US Army in 1947 and retired in 1971 at the rank of Major. He was a decorated soldier having been honored with many awards including two Bronze Stars while serving in Vietnam. Charles graduated with honors at NMSU earning two Bachelor of Arts degrees and two Master of Arts degrees: Sociology in 1975 and Counseling and Educational Psychology in 1976. He worked for the Social Security Administration from 1976 to 1999 and retired in El Paso.
   During retirement Charles pursued his passions for gardening, wildlife, archeology, wood carving, and lifelong learning. He was a Certified Texas Master Gardener and Texas Master Naturalist. Charles was active with many organizations including AARP, Texas Master Gardeners, Texas Master Naturalists, and was a Mason of Mason Lodge No. 291 of Edina, MO. Charles had the wit and humor of fellow Missourians Harry S. Truman and Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens). Mr. Berry was a generous, devoted man and is deeply missed.
   Visitation was held 10 am to 1 pm Friday, November 9 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with services at 1 pm. Burial followed at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.
