Brashear Tigers Draw Second District Seeding

Linn County was seeded first on the girls’ side in the Class 1, District 6 basketball tournament at Linn County. Sixth ranked LaPlata is the boys’ one seed. Boys’ first round contests are slated for Saturday, February 23 starting at 3PM. The district tournament is scheduled to run from February 23 to March 1.
Girls’ first round play is scheduled for Monday, February 25. The opening girls’ first rounder between Linn County and eighth seeded Macon County has a 4PM scheduled start.
Participating teams in order of boys’ seeding are LaPlata, Brashear, Macon County, Bucklin, Atlanta, Novinger, Green City and Linn County.
Second seeded Brashear (15-7) takes on Green City at 6PM in the boys’ first round on Saturday. Macon County and Novinger take the court following at 7:30PM. The Tigers and Raiders hooked up in a one point Brashear Tournament boys’ consolation championship game.
Boys’ championship semi-final contests begin at 6PM on Tuesday, February 26. If successful in the first round, Brashear would play Novinger of Macon County in the 6PM semi-final game. The boys’ district title contest is scheduled for Friday, February 29 at 6:30PM.
Brashear (11-10) drew the fourth girls’ seeding. The Lady Tigers will play conference rival Novinger in the first round at 5:30PM Monday night. Novinger and Brashear had a great conference game Friday night. Caroline Slavin scored with 1.7 seconds to play in a 50-48 Lady Tiger win.
The winner of the Brashear vs. Novinger girls’ first round contest will likely take on top seeded Linn County at 7:30PM on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:30PM in the semi-finals. The girls’ district championship game is slated for Saturday night at 6:30PM.
District 6 winners will challenge District 5 winners at the Highland Sectional on Tuesday, March 4. Class 1 District 5 participants include Silex, Marion County, and St. Louis area schools Yeshiva, Chamois and Gateway Academy.
