Lady Eagles Sweep Sprints At Palmyra

By David Sharp
Lorelei Schlueter won gold medals in the girls’ 100 and 200 meter dash events at the first varsity track meet of the Knox County 2008 season at Palmyra. Knox County’s boys took the silver medal in the 4x100m relay while Katie Ausmus placed second in the girls’ triple jump.
Clark County edged Palmyra for the boys’ team championship by a 61 to 60.5 point margin. Mark Twain finished a distant third with 27 points. Marion County placed fourth with 24 points and Knox County was fifth at 14.5 points.
Palmyra won the girls’ team title with 68 points. Mark Twain was second with 60 points. Knox County was third with 29 points. Marion County placed fourth with 26 points while Clark County was fifth with eight team points.
Cold weather and a strong head wind faced sprinters, long jumpers and weight throwers. Triple jump competitors had an uneven and probably undesired tail wind. All times and distances should be considered wind aided or impeded.
Knox County sophomore Joseph Rice ran a strong 3200 meter race, earning the third place medal in 12:37 seconds. Rice finished an eyelash out of the silver medal. Brady James clicked off a 20.78 second time in the boys’ 100m low hurdles and took home the bronze medal.
Tessa Ramer, Amanda Woods, Lorrie Peters and Katie Ausmus won bronze medals in the girls’ 1600m relay in 5:07.12 seconds. Cody Pegg, Colton Deem, Tory Yoakum and Ben Harder finished fourth in the boys’ 4×400 meter relay in 4:28 seconds.
The Eagles took fourth place in both 4×800 m relay events. The first three finishers in each event took home a gold medal for first place, silver for second and a bronze medal for third place.
Tory Yoakum, Joshua Clark, Andrew Sharp and Joseph Rice turned in an 11:08 second time in the boys’ 3200m relay. Suzanne Howerton, Lorrie Peters, Katie Ausmus and Jordin Luthenauer clocked a 12:07 second time in the girls’ 4×800 meter relay.
Brady Bugh, Tessa Ramer, Amanda Woods and Lorelei Schlueter won bronze medals in the girls’ 4x200m relay in 2:02.47 seconds. Mitchell Pegg, Cody Pegg, Cameron Kirmse and Brady James claimed silver medals in the boys’ 800m relay.
Amanda Woods, Tessa Ramer, Lorelei Schlueter and Alena Koester won silver medals in the girls’ 4×100 meter relay with a time of 56.78 seconds. Jacob Moots, Cameron Kirmse, Mitchell Pegg and Cody Pegg placed fourth overall in the boys 400m relay in 51.99 seconds.
