KAREN J. HALL
Karen Joyce Hall, 67, of Novelty, Missouri, died April 25, 2008, at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
She was born on August 22, 1940, in Long Beach, California the daughter of O.B. (Burdette) and Maurine Smith. Karen and her father moved to Missouri in 1946, after her mother passed away, and was raised by her father and paternal grandparents, Harry and Julia Smith.
Karen attended the Novelty Elementary and High School graduating in the class of 1958.
On August 15, 1958, Karen married her high school sweetheart, Carol Hall, and to this union six children were born.
Karen was baptized at the Novelty Christian Church on August 26, 1951 and was a member of the Locust Hill Community Church where she enjoyed helping teach a Sunday School Class, and also helped with music.
Karen loved music and taught piano for 30 years and enjoyed reading, studying, and sewing, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Carol Hall of Novelty, Missouri; children, David and his wife Melissa Hall of Columbia, Missouri, Dennis Phelps of Kirksville, Missouri, Melanie and her husband Lonnie Lunsford of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, John and his wife Michelle Hall of Columbia, Missouri, Angela and her husband Kelley Perry of Mitchellville, Iowa, and Christy and her husband Richard Swartz of Columbia, Missouri; grandchildren, Joshua and Corey Hall, Mary Arnold, and Lauren Hall, Daniel and his wife Julie Phelps, Luke and Adam Phelps, Wesley, Andrea and Michaela Lunsford, Christine, Andrew, and Alayna Hall, Anthony and Collen Perry, Amber Miller, and William, Grace, and Micah Swartz. She is also survived by her brother, Kim and his wife Janice Smith of Edina, Missouri; step sister, Lois and her husband David Smith of Birmingham, Alabama, step brother, Phillip Hutton, brother-in-law, Eugene and his wife Chong Hall of St. Peters, Missouri, sister-in-law, Jean and her husband Delbert Hawkins of Edina, Missouri, brother-in-law, Forrest and his wife Wanda Hall of Macon, Missouri, an uncle, Forrest Smith of Bakersfield, California, and a close friend since first grade, Kay Scearce of Kirksville, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and neighbors.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, oldest daughter, Teresa Phelps, stepmother, Beatrice Smith, grandparents including Henry and Agnes Smith, mother and father-in-law, Tom and Carrie Hall and step mother-in-law, Thelma Hall.
Funeral Services were Monday, April 28, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Locust Hill Community Church west of Novelty, Missouri.
Burial was in the Novelty Cemetery in Novelty, Missouri.
Reverend Ronnie Hawkins (Nephew) officiated and assisting was Reverend Rick Hall (Nephew) and Daniel Phelps (Grandson). Music was provided by JoAnne Layman, Debbie Peters, Audrey Hamlin, and LeaAnn Hamlin along with Marjorie Brenizer leading a congregational song. Also attending were long time spiritual leaders to the family Reverend Reese Blaine, Reverend Bill Gaines and Reverend Mike Johnson.
Casket Bearers were Mike Smith, Kelley Perry, Brent Hall, Merle Hall, Adam Phelps and Joshua Hall along with Honorary Bearers, Luke Phelps, Wesley Lunsford, Richard Swartz, Mark Smith, and Lonnie Lunsford.
