Marion County And Brashear Top Seeds At Brashear Tourney

Fifth ranked Marion County (13-3) and Brashear (12-3) were seeded first in their respective brackets for the 2009 Brashear Tournament. Knox County was the two seed in both brackets.
The tournament is scheduled to run February 9-14 with contests beginning at 4:30PM each evening. There is a note posted on the bracket stating, “All game times are approximate. Games may start early if preceding games end early.”
Participating teams in order of girls’ seeding are: Marion County, Knox County, North Shelby, Brashear, Atlanta, Novinger, Putnam County JV, and Macon County.
North Shelby and Novinger tip off the tournament Monday night with a 4:30PM girls’ contest. Knox County (12-5) challenges seventh seeded Marion County (0-13) in 9PM Monday night boys’ first round play.
The Lady Eagles (8-9) start off Tuesday first round play with the seventh seeded Putnam County JV. Top seeded Brashear plays the Midget JV in a 6PM boys’ game.
Brashear (5-10) and Atlanta hook up in a 7:30PM four vs. five seed girls game. Third seeded North Shelby and six seed Atlanta complete first round action at 9PM Tuesday.
Wednesday evening games are consolation semi-finals. The loser of the Brashear vs. Atlanta girls’ game will likely take on eighth seeded Macon County at 4:30PM followed by a boys’ consolation semi at 6PM. Two more contests are on the docket with 7:30PM and 9PM scheduled starts.
Thursday night games are all championship semi-final matchups. The winner of the Brashear vs. Atlanta girls’ game starts the festivities by facing top seeded Marion County at 4:30PM.
If the seeds hold up, two seed Knox County will challenge an improving third seeded North Shelby boys’ team at 6PM. The winner of the Knox County vs. Putnam County JV girl’s game will play the winner of the North Shelby vs. Novinger contest at 7:30PM.
Top seeded Brashear could face the winner of the fourth seed Novinger vs. fifth seeded Macon County in a 9PM boys’ game setting trophy games.
Friday night will determine seventh place and consolation champions. The girls’ seventh place game tips off at 4:30PM followed by the boys’ seventh place game at 6PM. The girls’ fifth place game has a 7:30PM tip off followed by the boys’ consolation championship game at 9PM.
Saturday night games begin with the girls’ third place game at 4:30PM. The boys’ third place trophy will be awarded after at 6PM contest. The girls’ championship game has a scheduled 7:30PM tip off followed by the boys’ championship game at 9PM.
Knox County is the two time defending boys’ tournament champion. North Shelby will defend their 2008 Brashear Tournament girls’ title.
