MERLIN G. HUSE

Merlin Gene Huse, age 75, of Plevna, Missouri, died Sunday, September 6, 2009, at his home in Plevna, Missouri.
He was born on October 4, 1933, at Newark, Missouri, the son of Melvin Bishop and Cleta Roene Spangler Huse.
On February 14, 1958, at Moberly, Missouri he was united in marriage to Martha Marie Montague.
Surviving are his wife Martha Marie Huse of Plevna, Missouri, four daughters, Myrna Bradley of Hurdland, Missouri, Monica Hunt of Columbia, Missouri, Mona Kaser and husband Gary of Novelty, Missouri, and Melinda Ridenhour and husband Brian of Jefferson City, Missouri, five grandchildren, Jonathan and Shannon Bradley of Hamilton, Missouri, Jessy and Jason Reuterdahl of Sturgeon, Missouri, Sarah and Eliza Ridenhour of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Alex Lawson of Novelty, Missouri, two sisters, Virginia Gibson of Bethel, Missouri, Wilma Huse of Branson, Missouri, one brother Marvin Huse and wife Lucille of Victoria, Texas, two sisters-in-law, Wanetha Huse of Newark, Missouri, and Margie Montague of Columbia, Missouri, his mother-in-law, Lucille Montague and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Merlin was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Alma Dee Huse, one brother, Melvin Dean Huse, two brothers-in-law, Dean Gibson, and Charles Elmo Montague, one son-in-law Duane Bradley, and his father-in-law, James Montague.
Merlin was raised in Knox County where he attended rural school in the Plevna area and graduated from Edina High School.
Merlin served his country in the United States Navy from November 8, 1955, to November 7, 1961, serving as a Gunner’s Mate 3rd Class on the U.S.S. Epperson DDE 719. After high school Merlin spent some time in Kansas where he was employed in construction handling explosives. Merlin was also employed with Taylor Trucking in Plevna, Hardy’s Construction for several years, and was a Dozer Contractor for 40 years. Merlin enjoyed family activities, woodworking, yard work, visiting friends and helping those in the community. He and his wife created and maintained the memorial, located in Plevna, for veteran’s that served their country from the community and the surrounding area. He was a member of the Plevna Christian Church and served as President of the church board. He was also a member of the Plevna / Novelty Fire Department, served on Mt. Salem Cemetery Board and as president of the Plevna Community Center for many years.
Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, in Edina, Missouri. Officiating the services was Dr. David Doctorian assisted by Rick Huse. Burial with full military honors was in the Mt. Salem Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Larry Simmons, Rick Smithy, Terry Ahern, Darrell Simmons, Kenny Dooley and Rick Huse. Honorary bearers were Billy Baker, Mike Taylor, Charles Rouner, Noel Palmer, Ken Hirt, Bob Smithy, Paul Parsons, James N. Lindsey and James S. Lindsey.
Visitation was Wednesday, September 9, 2009, after 4 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
