JOANNE MAE RAGAN

Joanne Mae Ragan, 91, of Kahoka, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois, with her family by her side.

Joanne was born on April 27, 1935, in Streator, Illinois to Clell A. and Mary V. (Trenor) Gutting. She married William (Bill) Ragan on December 5, 1954, at the First Christian Church, he preceded her in death on January 30, 2025.

Joanne worked as the Co-Owner of Ragan Gas Company for many years. Later in life she completed training at World Wide College of Auctioneering, after many auctions, she found her love for vintage hats, clothing and Clark County History. From this, she provided fashion shows, hat displays, and presentations for the tri-state area thus opening their Ragan History building in Kahoka. Joanne loved Clark County Schools and its various school events.

Her involvement spans numerous organizations and events, including Clark County Old Settlers, Relay for Life, Clark County Fair, Clark County Mule Festival, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Tuesday Club (a Charter Member), a member of Kahoka Chapter #40 Order of The Eastern Star, and American Legion Auxiliary 50+ years. She was very proud to present the annual Kahoka Alumni Scholarship.

Joanne recently resided at the Clark County Nursing home where she enjoyed reminiscing and playing card games. On April 16, 2026, Joanne was invited to participate in the Missouri Health Care Association Long- Term Care Pageant representing the Clark County Nursing Home and was named 1st runner up.

Joanne is survived by a son: Kim (Gina) Ragan of Peachtree City, GA, daughters: Shelly St. Clair of Holts Summit, MO., Kerry Cole of Canton, MO., 8 grandchildren: Brady Jamison, Ben (Rachel) Ragan, Briana (Jon) Berggren, Bailey (James Bippen) Ragan, Dallas (Adrienne) St. Clair, Betsy DeMois, Ethan Cole, 13 great grandchildren, Brother-in- Law Roland “Guy” Barrows of Revere, MO., Brothers and Sisters in-law James “Jim” (Janet) Ragan of Pleasant Hill, IA., Jon G. (Rose) Ragan of Jacksonville, FL., and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her in-laws Harold and Helen (Bridges) Ragan, a stillborn grandson Bo Daniel Ragan, a granddaughter Taylor Linn Cole, a brother and his wife William “Bill” and Marlys Gutting, a sister Beverly “Sis” Barrows, and a nephew Gregg Barrows.

Funeral Services for Joanne will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Kahoka Christian Church, Kahoka, MO. Pastor Shawn McAfee and Pastor Rick Addison will officiate. Burial will follow at the Kahoka Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be held at the Kahoka Christian Church, Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, with Eastern Star Rites starting at 11:00 am just before services.

Memorials in Joanne’s memory may be made to the following organizations, The Order of the Eastern Star {Kahoka Chapter #40}, The Local Cancer Fund, and the Kahoka Christian Church.
