Plans Fun Run/Walk
The Scotland County Hospital Employee Wellness Committee is making plans for the upcoming Antique Days 5K Fun Run & 1.5 mi. Walk on Saturday, August 27th on the square in Memphis. Thanks to the previous efforts of Dr. Jeff Davis, his wife Trinity, and many local volunteers & sponsors, this event has become a real crowd pleaser and a tradition of the annual Scotland County Antique Fair in Memphis.
Last fall, the Davis’ asked the SCH Employee Wellness Committee to consider managing the event so they could enjoy it with their family. Eagerly, Marcia Dial, SCH CEO, and Wellness Committee members accepted the offer. “This is a community collaboration that promotes engagement in physically active behaviors, which in turn keeps all of us healthier,” said Dial.
According to the Mission Statement of the Committee, SCH’s Employee Wellness Program is committed to providing opportunities which enhance the health and well-being of each employee. Hospital officials believe the Antique Fair Fun Run/Walk is a perfect activity for the Employee Wellness Committee to support.
Many local businesses and volunteers are once again supporting the Fun Run/Walk this year. There will be awards given in the following categories: Overall Male (5K), Overall Female (5K), Top 3 in Age Groups (5K); Oldest Participant, Youngest Self-Propelled Participant and Largest Household. Furthermore, there will be lots of door prizes for all participants. The grand prize is a gas grill.
The 5K is a timed event, while the 1.5 mi. walk is appropriate for the leisurely walker. The routes for both courses are the same as previous years and the starting point remains the same on the east side of the Memphis square. Registration begins at 7 a.m. near the SC Rotary Building and the Run/Walk begins at 8 a.m.
If participants wish to have a t-shirt for race day, pre-registration is required by Thursday, August 18th. Entry fees are $15 for individuals and
$35 for a family (same household) by August 18th and $20 for individuals and $40 for a family after August 18th. Students in grades K – 12 may register for only $10 anytime. Registration forms can be obtained at many businesses in the area or by calling the Hospital at 660-465-8511 or email a caring4u@scotlandcountyhospital.com.
Fun Run/Walk coordinator, Meagan Weber said, “The community is encouraged to support and cheer on their favorite walker/runner along the Run/Walk route. This encourages community support of healthy and active lifestyles.” (see map insert)
