More Details In Knox Murder Investigation

Residents of Knox County have been rocked by the news of the shooting death of Bill Bacon, 67, of rural Novelty on Tuesday afternoon, December 11, 2012.
Retired Police Officer, Glenn Head, 58, is in Custody at the Adair County Jail facing charges of Murder in the Second Degree and Armed Criminal Action.
Another rural Novelty resident, Glenn Head, 58, is being charged with one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A felony, and felony Armed Criminal Action. Head is a former St. Louis Metro Police officer of ten years and is being held at the Adair County Jail on a $250,000 cash only bond. If convicted Head could face a sentence of ten years to life in prison.

According to sources the two men were embroiled in a heated dispute over County Road No. 341, which is located in the southwest corner of Knox County between property both men own. And, the dispute is well known about by Knox County officials and residents of Novelty.
Tuesday, December 11, 2012 - Law enforcement officials gathered in southwest Knox County, southwest of Novelty off County Road 341, at the scene of a shooting in which Bill Bacon, 67, of rural Novelty was shot.
Sources have told the Sentinel a physical altercation may have happened between the two men Tuesday, before the shooting occurred and another altercation the week prior to the shooting.
It has been confirmed that both men called the Knox County Sheriff’s Office during the incident.
According to court documents, Bacon requested the assistance of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office in regards to a trespasser on his property. According to KCSO that call came in at 2:59 p.m.
A second call was received by KCSO regarding a shooting at the same location, which was made by Glenn Head 13 minutes after Bacon made the first call, at 3:12 p.m.
According to court documents, members of the KCSO and Missouri State Highway Patrol arrived to find Bacon on the ground with a bullet wound in his chest. Bacon was reported as being alive when police arrived to the scene of the shooting.
The documents also state Head admitted to shooting Bacon to Knox County Sheriff Mike Kite and an MSHP Trooper.
According to Knox County Coroner, Jeff Doss, Bacon was pronounced dead at 4:56 p.m. at the Kirksville Regional Hospital. An autopsy is being performed in Columbia, Missouri. The results of that autopsy are not expected to be released for several days.

Head was taken into custody following the incident and placed on a 24-hour hold at the Adair County Jail until formal charges were filed against him Wednesday afternoon, December 12, 2012 by the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office at the Knox County Courthouse.
According to Knox County Assistant Prosecutor, Jo Fortney, Head is scheduled to appear in court for an arraignment before Knox County Associate Judge William E. Alberty at the Adair County Courthouse at 9:00 a.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012.
According to a KCSO representative the last murder to have occurred in Knox County was the murder of Larry Callahan on October 6, 2006 in Knox City.
