Alma May Kelley

Alma KelleyAlma May Kelley, age 94, of Hurdland, MO, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013, in the Kirksville Manor Care Center.

She was born August 9, 1918, in Knox County, MO, the daughter of Edwin Penman and Callie Louise Pruett Mayer.

She was united in marriage to Woodrow E. Kelley on July 18, 1936, at Edina, MO and he preceded her in death on April 6, 1996.  Mrs. Kelley was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers; Robert, Charles and Lyle Edwin Mayer, two sisters; Emily McClanahan and Vera Mayer and one half sister Una Glimp.

Surviving are six children, Edward Kelley of Peoria, IL, Gary and Frances Kelley of Green Castle, MO, Rex and Jean Kelley of Crown Point, IN, Mark and Kimbra Kelley of LaPlata, MO, Lynda and Dale Laske of Hurdland, MO, and Sharon and Harold Simmons of LaPlata, MO, eleven grandchildren, Tracy and Rich Burdette, Brenda Mason, Debbie and Bobby McCartney, Kevin and Sheri Kelley, Teresa and Dave Nirtaut, Bliss Kelley, Slater and Alyssa Kelley, Brian and Dena Laske, Tim and Laura Laske, Christy and Kevin James, and Meghan Simmons, sixteen great grandchildren, Jesse Steele and Tiffany, Hunter Burdette, Grayson Burdette, Eric Mason and April, Shaun and Heather Mason, Dalton McCartney, Stephanie and Kevin Jones, Grant and Brittany Kelley, Jillian and Nick Gamel, Andrew Laske, Gabe Laske, Anna James, Christian James, Quade Simmons, Daegan Simmons and Zain Simmons, three great-great grandchildren, Ethan, Alex and Tyson, step great-great grandchildren, Chris, Sophia and Adrian, one sister-in-law, Elsie Mayer, one brother-in-law Teed Sykes and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alma May lived all her life in Knox County in the Hurdland area where she was a housewife, homemaker and raised six children thru difficult times.  For several years she worked at the Burnham Glove Factory in Edina.  She enjoyed crafts, quilting, gardening and spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.

Graveside services will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hurdland, MO.   Brother Robert Shobe will officiate the services.

Casket bearers will be Max Mayer, Dennis Mayer, Freddie Bailey, Chester Primm, Jerry Perry, Delbert Stoner, Robert Lay and Dave Comegys.

Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO.
