Plea Agreement Reached in Former Circuit Clerk Mary Jones’ Case
Former Clark County Circuit Clerk Mary Jones
According to Missouri Case.net, former Clark County Circuit Clerk Mary Jones has reached a plea agreement with the prosecution in her felony theft case.
Jones was suspended from office and resigned in July 2013, following a report of possible financial improprieties.
She was arrested in June of 2014, and charged with two counts felony counts of Theft/Stealing (Value of Property or Services is Between $500-25,000), according to the Missouri Highway Patrol’s Probable Cause Statement.
An audit of the Clark County Circuit Clerk’s office by the Missouri State Auditor revealed some $12,000 in missing or misappropriated money.
Terms of the plea agreement are not public until the plea hearing, which is scheduled for either June 29, July 15, or July 24, depending on potential conflicts for Judge Chris Kunza Mennemeyer. According to Case.net, disposition is agreed to, other than that each party will provide arguments as to a request for shock jail time.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Attorney General Katharine Dolin for the State of Missouri, and Attorney Mark L. Williams is Jones’ attorney. It should also be noted that the plea deal is not final until it is entered in court.
She is to enter an “Alford Plea” at that plea hearing. In an Alford Plea, the criminal defendant does not admit the act, but admits that the prosecution could likely prove the charge.
