VELETA DETTWILER MILES

Valeta Rose (Vee) Miles, age 86, of Quincy, Illinois, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020, at her home in Quincy.
She was born in Versailles, Missouri, the daughter of Gerald Leroy and Martha Edelman Dettwiler.
She was united in marriage to Robert Eugene Miles on September 3, 1950, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Surviving are her husband Robert Eugene Miles of Quincy, IL, one son Steven (Donna) Miles of Cabot, AR, three daughters Chris (Ron) Nagel of Ewing, MO, Joanne (Gary) Arnold of McGregor, TX, Michelle (Robert) Wikowsky of Beebe, AR, one sister Bonnie Pickering-Chestnut husband Royce of Quinter, KS, twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren. Valeta was preceded in death by her parents, and two sisters, one in infancy and Erma Baker.
Vee Miles was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was married to her husband Bob for 69 years, something they were both very proud of. During her lifetime Vee worked at the Children’s Hospital in Iowa City, IA, Birdseye Food in Fullerton, CA, Kimberly Clark, Iowa City, IA, Motorola and Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL, as well as farming with Bob. After Bob had an accident in California she was awarded “Queen for A Day”, by a local TV show. Vee enjoyed gardening, cooking, but most of all spending time with family and friends. Playing Canasta was one of her favorite pastimes. Baking and cleaning were a few of Vee’s talents. You could always count on Vee’s homemade pies at family gatherings and her home to be “spotless”. Vee’s faith was a vital part of her life and she anxiously awaited the day she would spend eternity with her Lord.
Private services for family with the Reverend Ryan Arnold officiating will be held Wednesday in the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, MO. Graveside services will be held on 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2020, in the Church of the Brethren Cemetery, Cherry Box, Missouri, with Ron Nagel, Gary Arnold, Robert Wikowsky, Matt Wikowsky, R.D. Nagel, and Eric Schaben as casket bearers.
