Palmyra, MO – October 24, 2025 — The Palmyra School Foundation proudly recognizes Richard “Rip” Bross, a 1966 graduate of Palmyra High School, as the primary benefactor of the Bross Family Scholarship, a fund that has empowered dozens of Palmyra students to pursue their dreams beyond graduation.
A lifelong learner and proud Palmyra alumnus, Bross earned his degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering with a minor in Economics from the University of Missouri in 1970. He began his professional career in Oklahoma City with a major energy company and continued to advance his education, obtaining an MBA from Oklahoma City University and thereafter studying Petroleum Engineering at the University of Oklahoma.
In 2022, Rip approached the Palmyra School Foundation with a vision to create a scholarship that would support Palmyra High School graduating seniors with an interest in engineering or economics. However, inspired by the unique aspirations and stories of local students, he soon expanded his selection criteria to celebrate “their own individual passions”— encouraging all students, regardless of field of study, to embrace the possibilities of their future.
Rip hopes that his financial help will “allow more students to open doorways into their own wider worlds.”
Since its inception, the Bross Family Scholarship has made a remarkable impact. Over the past four years, Rip has awarded $66,000 in scholarships to 27 deserving students, helping them turn their dreams into reality.
“Rip’s generosity and belief in the potential of every Palmyra student exemplify the spirit of giving that drives our mission,” said Tavner Brown, President of the Palmyra School Foundation. “His scholarship does more than provide financial support—it inspires our students to see value in their own journey.”
The Palmyra School Foundation facilitates scholarships like the Bross Family Scholarship by partnering with donors who share a passion for investing in students’ futures. Since 2023, the Foundation has added nearly $200,000 in new scholarship funds, awarding approximately $49,000 annually to students.
The Foundation offers flexible ways to establish a scholarship, whether through one-time gifts, long-term investments, or estate planning contributions. Donors retain the ability to define award criteria, selection processes, and amounts, while the Foundation ensures their wishes are honored for generations to come. As a registered 501(c)(3) organization, all gifts are tax-deductible.
“We’re deeply grateful for community members like Rip Bross, whose generosity ensures that Palmyra students have the encouragement and resources to build bright futures,” said Jason Harper, Superintendent.
