LEWIS COUNTY, Mo. – On Oct. 23, 2025, Lewis County celebrated the sesquicentennial— 150th anniversary—of the construction of its courthouse. The public was invited to have lunch and see the recent renovations to the courtroom, including new carpeting; reupholstered and refurbished chairs behind the bench; a new benchtop; fresh paint; and new ceiling tiles.
These improvements were badly needed and were supported by Lewis County commissioners Fid Murphy, Travis Fleer and Craig Redmon. Sixty-nine guests signed the guest book.
Guests were greeted at the door of the courtroom by Lewis County Circuit Clerk Julie George, who organized the event. Food was served by Deputy Circuit Clerks April Lay, Billie Janes and Jess Rash; Treasurer Bonnie Roberson; Recorder of Deeds Amy Parrish; County Clerk Shannon Sapp; Deputy County Clerk Tricia Sly; and office worker Julie Rutherford.
Judge Corey Moon; John George; Lewis County Road and Bridge Supervisor Drew Frese; and employees Billy Joe Rash, Andy Michel, Roy Hetlzer and Jerry Patterson assisted with setup and cleanup for the event.
A catered lunch of pulled pork with sides was provided to attendees free of charge. There were also commemorative cookies with different designs, including a photo of the courthouse and “150th anniversary.”
In addition to the food, guests were able to read about Lewis County’s only Missouri Supreme Court judge, David Wagner, who served on the court from 1865 to 1876. He was also known for publishing his compilation of Missouri statutes, often referred to as “Wagner’s Statutes,” in 1870.
Guests were also able to view a photo album documenting this year’s courtroom renovations, compiled by Mrs. George.
