KAHOKA, Mo. – The spirit of the season came alive on Thursday, Dec. 18, as Clark County R-1 High School hosted its annual Holiday Concert, featuring performances by the school’s concert choir and concert band. The event, held at 7:15 p.m., was directed by Robert Dooley with assistance from Philip Haverstock.
The concert choir opened the evening with a festive and diverse selection of holiday and classical music, including “Come, Singing Noel,” a traditional carol; “Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas” by John Williams and Leslie Bricusse; “Joy to the World” by George F. Handel; and “The First Noel,” a French carol. Other highlights included “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” by Felix Mendelssohn; “Gloria in Excelsis,” arranged by Vivaldi and Martens; “Wonderful Peace” by Gustaf Nordqvist; “Carol of the Bells” by Peter J. Wilhousky; and “Home for the Holidays,” arranged by Jay Althouse.
The concert band continued the celebration with four dynamic arrangements: “Christmas Recollections” by John Edmondson, “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson, “A Mad Russian’s Christmas” by Paul O’Neill, and “Russian Christmas Music” by Alfred Reed. Together, the choir and band showcased the dedication and talent of Clark County’s student musicians, offering the audience a memorable and uplifting holiday performance.
In addition to the music, the evening recognized students who earned selection to various elite music ensembles during the fall. Five students were named to the All-District Choir: Jon Schmitz, Breckin Webster, Hali Justice, Carson Wallain and Carly Jenkins. Breckin Webster was selected for the All- State Choir, with Jon Schmitz named as first alternate.
The All-District Band included Breckin Webster on trombone, Jon Schmitz on French horn, Zaiden Halbert on trumpet and Aynsley Harmon on clarinet. Carly Jenkins (clarinet) and Quintin Roach (percussion) received honorable mentions.
Six students were named to the All- Conference Chorus: Madison Boyd, Hali Justice, Carly Jenkins, Rowen Kelly, Jon Schmitz and Breckin Webster. The All- Conference Band roster included Nevada Wood, Hali Justice, Aynsley Harmon, Carly Jenkins, Kaitlyn Shuman, Quintin Stark, Zaiden Halbert, Deegan Brown, Zephyr Soice, Jon Schmitz, Elizabeth Fransioli, Breckin Webster, Tristan Newberry, Quintin Roach and Grant Smelster.
The evening closed with a message of gratitude to all families and community members for their continued support of the music program, with warm wishes for a safe and joyous holiday season.
