KANSAS CITY, Mo. – U.S. Rep. Sam Graves (MO-06) has announced his nominations for students across Missouri’s Sixth Congressional District to attend the United States Military Service Academies. Each year, members of Congress nominate outstanding high school students for appointment to the nation’s service academies.
“One of the greatest honors I have as the congressman for North Missouri is nominating highly qualified students to our nation’s military service academies,” Graves said. “These young men and women are among the best and brightest. They’ve excelled academically and shown exceptional leadership in their schools and communities. I have no doubt they’ll make North Missouri proud.”
Students nominated by Graves will be considered for admission by the respective academies. The nomination process is highly competitive, with service academies requiring rigorous academic standards and demonstrated leadership potential. To assist with the selection process, Graves relies on an Academy Nominations Review Board composed of academy alumni, veterans and community leaders from the Sixth District. The board interviews and evaluates applicants before providing recommendations.
Among this year’s nominees are students from Palmyra and Marion County. Ashton Lovegreen of Palmyra R-I High School was nominated to the U.S. Naval Academy, and Wyatt Tuley of Marion County R-II High School was nominated to both the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Military Academy.
Students interested in applying to a U.S. service academy in future years are encouraged to begin preparing early in their high school careers. Additional information is available by contacting Graves’ district office in Kansas City or visiting graves.house.gov.
