The Clark County Indians delivered a spirited performance at the Highland Tournament, kicking things off with a thrilling win and gaining valuable experience in a tough three-game stretch. With a mix of senior leadership and emerging underclassmen, the Indians showed heart, hustle, and plenty to build on as the season unfolds.
Game 1 – January 6:
The Indians opened the tournament in dramatic fashion, holding off a late surge by host Highland to earn a 58-55 victory. Clark County jumped out to an 18-10 first-quarter lead and controlled much of the first half, building a double-digit advantage before Highland clawed back.
Senior Kai Binsbacher set the tone early, scoring 12 of his 13 points in the first half. Junior Corrick Hunziker took over late, pouring in 15 points—including 8 in the fourth quarter—to help the Indians close out the win. Junior Lukas Weaver added 9 points in a steady all-around game. Seniors Wyatt Billings and Reid Sammons combined for 5 early points, and senior Kole Ross sparked the second half with 10 points across the final three quarters. Junior Owen Eddleman also chipped in with a key bucket in the opening period.
Game 2 – January 7:
Facing a fast and physical Kirksville team, Clark County stayed close early but was outpaced in the second quarter, where the Tigers pulled ahead with a 20-point frame. Despite the 63-46 final, the Indians continued to fight until the final whistle.
Sammons led the way with 14 points, showing aggressive play on both ends of the floor. Hunziker again delivered, scoring 13 points, including 9 in the third quarter. Weaver found his rhythm in the fourth, scoring 6 points down the stretch. Binsbacher and Eddleman contributed early baskets, while Ross knocked down a three in the second.
Game 3 – January 9:
The final game saw the Indians run into a red-hot Keokuk squad, whose pace and pressure proved too much in an 89-30 defeat. Still, Clark County showed fight and glimpses of their potential.
Hunziker led the scoring again with 13 points, continuing his strong tournament showing. Sammons added 6 points across three quarters, and Weaver chipped in 5 in the first half. Senior Wyatt Davis added a second-quarter bucket, while junior Conner Waples made the scorebook with a late free throw.
