February 28, 1901

Peter Foreman died at his home four miles west of this city Wednesday morning at 3 o’clock. He had been sick for the past six months, but last Friday he was taken with pneumonia and since that time his life has been despaired for.
Adolph Hoenes has bought the old Fred Krummell property in the northern part of the city, paying $300 for it. Mr. Hoenes will likely make some extensive improvements.
James Kizer is in the city, called here by the illness of his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Haynes.
Weyand & Berghoefer were putting up thirteen inch ice yesterday. They got it at Crane’s bridge over North river. There is now more ice up than last year, and it is all of a fair quality.
Mrs. Mary Freidank has been quite ill for the past week.
Coonie Nill’s little girl got a pin stuck in her throat last Thursday, and was very sick for several hours, before it was found out what was the matter with her. The pin was removed with considerable trouble and the little girl is all right again.
Mr. Jim Brower is stepping high over the arrival of a ten pound girl at his house.
A daughter was born to the wife of John King of this city Tuesday last week.
Mrs. W. R. Anderson, Jr., and Misses May Anderson and Rose Koch were the guests of Senator Heather and wife in Jefferson City last week.
The wedding of Arthur A. Scott of Hester and Miss Lauraetta Lyell of Shelbina is announced for March 6th, at the latter place.

February 24, 1926

Miss Rose Berghofer of this “City of Flowers” has just been honored by having a large Colorado Mining Corporation christened in her favor. The Rose-City Ore Company was the name chosen.
At the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Arp, of Withers Mill, last Sunday evening a very pretty wedding took place when their daughter, Miss Josephine, and Mr. H. Ross Ziegler also of Withers Mill were united in marriage.
A number of relatives with well filled baskets gathered at the home of Benjamin Gash and son, Frank, to help celebrate their birthdays.
Theodore Burkhardt and Carl Schade spent Friday night and Saturday with Arthur Appel.
A little son arrived at the home of Charles Dark and wife who live near Palmyra, last Friday.
Mr. and Mrs. Bert Vance, who live near town, are rejoicing over the arrival last
Wednesday of a little son.
Miss Edna Juette who has been the bookkeeper and stenographer for Glisson Motor Co., has resigned her position, intending to take a course in Gem City Business College, Quincy, in the near future.
Mrs. Tabitha M. Miller, one of the oldest and most highly esteemed residents of Marion County, died Tuesday morning. She was 86 years of age. She is survived by three daughters and two grandchildren.
A. F. Griffith was called to Denver, Colorado, Saturday night by the serious illness of his brother, John Griffith.

Miss Louriene Virginia Tate, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Tate of Palmyra and Carl Leon Claus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Claus, also of Palmyra, were married at the Assembly of God Church parsonage in hannibal at 4:30 o’clock, Friday afternoon, February 21.
The marriage of Miss Mary Louise Begley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Begley of Monroe City and Stanly Eugene Johnson of Rensselaer took place at the Assembly of God Log Tabernacle, at 2:15 o’clock, Sunday afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Ward, well-known couple in the western part of the county, are observing their sixty-second wedding anniversary at their home today, February 26.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Fagan of Philadelphia are the parents of a daughter, born Monday, February 24, at Levering Hospital in Hannibal.
Miss Grace Meyers is spending the week with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Meyers of west of Palmyra.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gash were honored with a surprise event given by their children in celebration of their 48th wedding anniversary and the birthday of Mr. Gash Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. John Peiter are the parents of a son, born Saturday, February 22. This is their second son, the elder also being a boy.
Little Mary Jane awoke about 3 o’clock one morning. She asked her mother to tell her a story. Her mother said, “If you wait a little longer your father will be home and tell us both a story.”

Vandals recently caused damage at Flower City Park. Lights from the tennis court were damaged, a security light was destroyed and a hatchet was used on the women’s restroom. A shelter house light bulb and protective glass were also shattered.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde F. Bourne of Taylor observed their 62nd wedding anniversary on Wednesday, February 25. They were married in Palmyra on February 25, 1914.
Jenny Angeline, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob, Philadelphia, celebrated her second birthday on February 10 with ice cream and cake.
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Mike Creger of Taylor at 11:55 p.m. on Monday, March 1, 1976 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.

Work should begin as soon as the weather permits on the Bay de Charles Bridge following approval of the bid. The Marion County Commission accepted the low bid from Bleigh Construction for the bridge work.
Shelby Quigg, Kansas City, Missouri, and Kevin Durand, Louisville, Kentucky, were united in marriage on September 30, 2000, at 6 p.m. at the Colonial Presbyterian Church. The bride is the daughter of Marlene Riley, Kansas City, and Steve and Ann Quigg, Kansas City. The groom is the son of Al and Elaine Durand, Palmyra.
Kristen Marie Arch and Joseph Donald Camp were united in marriage on January 26, 2001, in Hannibal. The bride is the daughter of Diane Arch, Palmyra, and Randy and Shirley Arch, Monroe City. The groom is the son of Danny and Sondra Camp, Hannibal, and Ben and Cheryl West, Palmyra.
The parents of Stephanie Funkenbusch, Palmyra; and Marcus Deege, Quincy, Illinois, announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their children. Funkenbusch is the daughter of Mark and Kathy Funkenbusch, Palmyra; and Deege is the son of Jeff and Kathy Deege, Quincy.
