Gardner House Museum Musing

Hope everyone had a great Easter. Easter for some means that Spring is here, and the earth seems to be busting open to the colors of flowers and the green of trees and grass. Soon the lawnmowers will be humming (if they are not
already).
Thought I would look up where the tradition of the Easter Bunny came from.
Easter Bunny originated from the German folklore linking to the Pegan Goddess Eostre and later intergrading into the Christian Easter traditions.
Easter Hare appeared in the German Lutheran traditions. The bunny was to judge the children’s behavior and deliver colored eggs, candy and toys on the basis of well behaved children.
The Pegan Connection connected with the Easter Hare and eggs were the symbols of a German Goddess of spring and a renewal of life after winter. Celebrating with Springtime feasts.
Early Christians added these symbols the Hare and eggs to their Easter Celebrations connecting them to the resurrection of Jesus which meant renewed life.
Easter eggs is a symbol of Jesus tomb from which he resurrected. Eggs were forbidden during Lent, and when Lent was over, they were a special treat. Easter Bunny’s Role is very much like Santas role at Christmas time.
Bunny equals resurrection of Jesus – Santa equals the Birth of Jesus.
Growing up as kids we always looked forward to the new clothes that we got to wear for church and coming home to find our baskets that the Easter Bunny left us.
What was your favorite memory at Easter ?
Everyone have a good week .
