Haskins Deals, Panthers Handle Mendon Unity 4-1

MENDON, Ill. — Palmyra rode a strong outing from Ty Haskins and timely early offense to a 4-1 win over Mendon Unity on April 13.
The Panthers set the tone immediately in the first inning. Rylan Compton scored the game’s first run, and Logan Kroeger followed with another as Palmyra capitalized on early opportunities to grab a 2-0 lead.Palmyra added to its advantage in the third inning. Kroeger reached again and came
around to score, and Haskins delivered the key swing of the day with atwo-run single to push the lead to 4-0.
That was more than enough support for Haskins.

The right-hander went the distance, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six. He worked through traffic at times but consistently made pitches when needed to keep Mendon Unity from mounting a serious threat.
At the plate, Haskins and Kroeger led the way with two hits apiece, combining to anchor the middle of the lineup.
Compton also reached multiple times and helped spark the offense from the top.
Palmyra showed patience throughout, drawing seven walks and putting pressure on the defense. The Panthers were also clean in the field, turning a double play and committing no errors.
Mendon Unity’s only run came on a solo home run in the fifth inning, but Palmyra quickly settled back in behind Haskins to close out the game.
