Highland Qualifies 11 Entries for State Track Meet
MOKANE, Mo. — Highland put together a strong sectional showing Saturday, May 16, at the MSHSAA Class 2 Sectional 2 track and field meet, qualifying 11 entries for the state meet.
The top four finishers in each event advanced to state. Chevie Sharpe led the Lady Cougars with two sectional championships, winning the 800-meter run in 2:22.29 and the 1,600-meter run in 5:19.92. Highland’s girls 4×400-meter relay team also advanced with a second-place finish in 4:11.35.
Ali Lundberg qualified in the high jump, placing third at 1.59 meters, while Eva Logsdon advanced in the pole vault with a third-place finish at 2.93 meters. Bailie Crist added another state berth for the Highland girls, placing second in the javelin with a throw of 37.23 meters.
On the boys side, Christopher Gaus qualified in two events, placing fourth in the 100-meter dash in 11.23 and fourth in the long jump at 6.43 meters. Porter Peters advanced in the 400-meter dash, placing fourth in 51.26, and the Highland boys 4×400-meter relay team earned a state berth with a fourth-place finish in 3:35.35.
