Macon Power Surge Ends Palmyra’s District Run

MACON, Mo. —Palmyra’s district championship hopes ended Tuesday as Macon used a big early lead and two fourth-inning grand slams to defeat the Panthers 17-5 in the Class 3 District 6 title game.

Macon jumped ahead with three runs in the first inning and five more in the second, building an 8-0 lead before Palmyra answered with its biggest inning of the night.

The Panthers pushed across five runs in the bottom of the second. Ty Haskins drove in Brady Cook and Griffin Scifres with a double to right field, cutting the deficit to 8-2.

Raeson Miller followed with a three-run home run to left field, scoring Haskins and Rafe Jones to pull Palmyra within 8-5. Macon added a run in the third, then broke the game open in the fourth. K. Holman hit a grand slam to right field, and R. Lewis later added another grand slam in the same inning as Macon stretched the lead to 17-5.

Palmyra collected six hits in the game. Miller led the Panthers, going 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and three RBIs. Rylan Compton also had two hits. Haskins doubled and drove in two runs, while Logan Kroeger added a hit.

Cook, Jones, Scifres, Haskins and Miller scored runs for Palmyra. Miller started on the mound for the Panthers and took the loss. Bryant Horstmeier and Max Heimer also pitched in relief. Heimer worked the final 1 2/3 innings, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two.

Macon finished with 12 hits, including home runs by Lewis, H. Ritter and Holman. Lewis drove in five runs, while Ritter went 3-for-3 with five RBIs. The loss closed Palmyra’s season one win short of a district championship
