EUGENE “GENE” YOAKUM
Eugene “Gene” Yoakum, 86, of Brashear, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at his residence north of Hurdland, Missouri.
Gene was born March 23, 1940, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Orvie Leon and Agnes Theresa Rodey Yoakum.
He attended Black Rural School before graduating from the Hurdland High School in the Class of 1958.
On December 22, 1962, in Edina, Missouri, he married Reta Frances Rowlison, and they made their home north of Hurdland, Missouri.
He farmed his entire life, was a NFO member and was a hog buyer for them for several years. He served on the Hurdland 4th of July, Hurdland Ball Association and a member of the Hurdland Fire Department. Gene enjoyed playing cards, coaching baseball, and visiting with neighbors, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with family.
Eugene is survived by his two sons, Marvin and his wife Elizabeth Yoakum of Kirksville, Missouri, and Darin and his wife Cheri Yoakum of Hurdland, Missouri; two daughters, Belinda and her husband Joe Broughton of Monroe City, Missouri, and Tammy and her husband Tim Wolff of Brighton, Illinois; ten grandchildren, Tori Yoakum, Madison and Dane Hubbard, Amy Yoakum, Katie and Chris Carr, Adrianna and Elton Walker, Zeke and Christa Broughton, Mackenzie and George Andrae, Emily Wolff, Isabelle and Daniel Hopkins, and Samuel Wolff; numerous great grandchildren; a close family friend that Gene and Reta thought of as their fourth son, Mori and his wife Liz Leavitt of Bainbridge, Washington and their daughter, Emilie; brothers, Gary and his wife Mary Ann Yoakum of Edina, Missouri, Kieth and his wife Barb Yoakum of LaPlata, Missouri, Leroy and his wife Donna Yoakum of Kirksville, Missouri, and Melvin Yoakum of Hurdland, Missouri; sisters, Wanda Hustead of Marceline, Missouri, Martha and her husband Jack Smith of Shelbina, Missouri, Bev and her husband Tony Arnold of Clarence; a sister-in-law, Helen Rowlison of Hurdland, Missouri; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Reta Yoakum; parents, Orvie and Agnes Yoakum; a sister, Audrey Yoakum; a son, Kevin Yoakum; and a grandson, Lathem Yoakum.
Funeral Services were at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2026, at the Doss Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri.
Visitation was Friday, June 12, 2026, at the funeral home in Edina, Missouri.
Interment was in the Park View Memorial Gardens in Kirksville, Missouri.
