Community Pushes Forward on JT Thomas’ Accessible New Home

By Ella Aguilar
Construction continues to make steady progress on JT Thomas’ new home thanks to the support of volunteers, local businesses and community members.
Throughout June, volunteers completed several major milestones, including pouring concrete for the patio and basement while preparing the new home to be fully ADA accessible for JT.
As work continued into July, crews began framing the garage walls, bracing the attic rafters in the existing house and removing the old roof to make way for the next phase of construction.
The project also has been supported by families and community members who have donated meals and food to keep volunteers energized throughout each workday.
Volunteers, including members of the Monroe City football team, Mary Ohnemus and many others, have continued to donate their time and talents to help bring JT’s new home to life.
Merkel Container Services donated two large dumpsters for the project. The donation has made a tremendous difference by giving volunteers a convenient place to dispose of scrap materials and construction debris,
helping keep the worksite safe and organized.
Every hour volunteered, every meal donated and every helping hand brings the project one step closer to giving JT a safe, accessible home. The community’s continued support is a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when neighbors come together for a common purpose.
