Schuyler County Nursing Home District 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Schuyler County Nursing Home District celebrated 50 years of compassionate service to the residents of Schuyler County on Sunday evening, July 12, 2026, with a large crowd in attendance.

For five decades, the facility has provided exceptional care and support to the elderly and to individuals with chronic illnesses, disabilities, and cognitive impairments.

During the celebration, special recognition was given to Administrator Rebecca Humphrey; the Board of Directors— Chairman Ryan Bushnell, Co-Chairman Michael Oberman, Terry Morgan, Jeanie McClain, Kimberly Beeler, and Chloe Scott; as well as the many dedicated employees, volunteers, residents, and all who have contributed to the facility’s outstanding legacy of compassionate service.

I would like to recognize Rose Padget, the facility’s Activities Director, for assisting Lisa Garrison, Legislative Assistant to Senator Cindy O’Laughlin, by providing historical information used in preparing the Senate Resolution and for helping organize this memorable celebration.

On behalf of Senator Cindy O’Laughlin and the Missouri Senate, Lois Bragg, 18th District Legislative Assistant presented the Senate Resolution commemorating the Schuyler County Nursing Home District’s 50th Anniversary to Board President Ryan Bushnell.

Board Chairman Ryan Bushnell then recognized the original 1973 steering committee, which included H. Middleton, Joe Applegate, Caroline Funk, Melvin “Bud” Lancaster, Frances Norman, and Dr. Edwards Roberts, whose vision and dedication helped make the facility a reality.

The facility’s first administrator was Kermit Howell, and its first Director of Nursing, Maria Anderson Carroll, later became the second administrator.

Robert Seamster served as administrator for 35 years before dedicating another 10 years to assisting with the Retirement Planning Program. Both were in attendance and were recognized for their extraordinary years of service and commitment to the facility and the community.

Bushnell also acknowledged countless individuals who have worked, volunteered, and cared for residents throughout the past five decades, as well as the many residents and families whose lives have been touched by the facility.

He noted that while far too many people have contributed to individually recognize, each has played an important role in the Nursing Home District’s enduring legacy.

As part of preserving that legacy, a comprehensive history of the facility is being compiled and will be donated to the Schuyler County Historical Society for permanent preservation at the Hall Museum in Lancaster.

Hundreds of historical and current photographs are displayed throughout the facility on bulletin boards and framed collages to commemorate the 50th anniversary and celebrate the people who have shaped its history.

The celebration also featured a community carnival with food and refreshments for attendees.

The evening’s highlight was a performance by Schuyler County’s own Grammy Award-winning bluegrass artist Rhonda Vincent and her band.

Rhonda’s mother, Carolyn, is celebrating her 50th year as a beautician and began providing beauty services at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in 1976, making her own connection to the facility span nearly its entire history.

The celebration concluded with a spectacular fireworks display, providing a fitting finale to an evening honoring 50 years of compassionate care, community support, and dedicated service.
