National Pork Board Elects New Officers

Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns has appointed Everett Forkner of Richards, Mo. to serve a three-year term on the 15-member National Pork Board. Forkner will begin his term on July 1. He and four other pork producers from across the U.S. were chosen from among eight pork producers nominated and ranked by the National Pork Act Delegate Body during its annual meeting in March.

Ethanol Plant Coming To West Quincy

Mississippi Valley BioEnergy, LLC today announced that it plans to build a large ethanol plant in Northeastern Missouri. The 100 million gallon per year dry-mill production facility would be located near West Quincy, where MVBE has secured two options to purchase approximately 285 acres along the Mississippi River just south of Highway 24.

Community Service Helps to Keep Our Roadsides Clean

HANNIBAL – As the flowers begin blooming on Missouri roadsides, the first sure sign of spring is the litter that can be seen along the highways.  Thoughtless and illegal, littering yields a heavy burden of trash along highway throughout Missouri.  MoDOT’s Adopt-A-Highway program, consisting of more than 3,700 groups statewide, are area residents, businesses and civic organizations who have volunteered to help rid the landscape of this eyesore.     

  Besides volunteers, some of the local judicial systems have recently started requiring lawbreakers to perform a specified number of hours of unpaid labor picking up trash along roadways.   "People just pitch unwanted things out the window of their car, having forgotten that littering is against the law," Shulse added.  The program teaches everyone to respect the land and our roadways.
