Maywood News

Written by Rachel Bringer

The weather this week changed again from hot days early in the week to some frost on the ground this morning. Friday evening brought a storm to the area, but the more severe weather seemed to pass north of Maywood. The rain filled the rivers and ponds, and the Troublesome Creek lived up to its name this weekend!
South Union Baptist Church gathered for worship today, and Brother Dan gave a heartfelt message entitled “Jesus is Still Alive, Really,” from 1 Corinthians 15:3-6. The children sang a chorus—“Christ Died for Our Sins”–
to go along with the message, and Luke helped accompany the congregational singing for “I Know That My Redeemer Liveth.” Several were added to the prayer list. At 9:30 a.m., the Sunday School children studied chapter 15 of 1 Corinthians and made birthday cards for our pastor, Brother
Dan, which included a special message from 1 Corinthians 15:3.
During the service, Brother Dan received special recognition for his birthday, which included many cards and two special tomato plants from
John and Chris Carter. Memorial Day weekend is just a month away, and
don’t forget to mark your calendars for May 22nd-24th, when Pastor Randy Davis will be leading a chalk art revival at South Union Baptist Church.
There will be free meals during each service!
Children’s Sunday School has resumed at South Union Baptist Church and begins at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday.
In addition to a Bible lesson, the children do a craft, sing songs, and eat snacks. Children of all ages are welcome!!
On Thursday, Rachel, Luke, Jacob, and Elijah Shepherd attended the Missouri Organic Association event, “Bringing Soil to Life, a Hands-On Field
Day.” The day began with presentations about soil health at the Ewing Community Center; and after lunch, more than 150 participants had an
opportunity to tour the farm of Andrew and Allyson Stark, who own
“Stark Naked Poultry,” which raises, processes, and sells pasture-raised chickens. Andrew’s brother Aaron was also on hand to discuss organic certification; and their mother, Laurie, helped with the event and provided information about beekeeping to interested participants. The weather was beautiful for the event, and Starks were terrific hosts!
“Spring’s an expansive time: yet I don’t trust March with its peck of dust, Nor April with its rainbow-crowned brief showers,
Nor even May, whose flowers
One frost may wither thro’ the sunless hours.”
― Christina Rossetti
