Palmyra Buses Earn Perfect Inspection Rating

PALMYRA — Two Marion County-area school districts recently completed the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s 2026 annual school bus inspection program, with no buses from either district placed out of service.

Palmyra R-I earned a perfect inspection rating, with all 18 buses approved during the initial inspection. No Palmyra buses were listed as defective.

Marion County R-II presented six buses for inspection. Three buses were approved during the initial inspection, and three were listed as defective. None were placed out of service.

Under Patrol guidelines, buses with defective components must be repaired within 10 days. Buses placed out of service require repairs, reinspection and approval by Patrol personnel before they can return to transporting students.

The annual inspection program is conducted by the Patrol’s Driver and Vehicle Safety Division. Statewide, 10,239 school buses were rated approved on initial inspection, while 849 were rated defective and 283 were placed out of service.

Colonel Michael A. Turner, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, said the annual inspection program is one way the Patrol, schools and pupil transportation companies work together to help ensure student safety.
