JEFFERSON
CITY, Mo., June 4, 2009 —With
the summer travel season in full force, the Missouri Division of Tourism is
stepping up its efforts to help Missouri destinations and attractions promote
themselves to value-conscious travelers across the
Midwest.

This
week, the division issued reminders via destination marketing organizations
across the state that the deadline for submitting destination and attraction
listings for the 2010 Official Missouri
Travel Guide
via the industry portal is Monday, June 15.

Any Missouri
business serving the traveling public may create a profile online at no charge
by logging on to www.Industry.VisitMO.com
and completing the online form. All profiles are subject to approval by the
Missouri Division of Tourism before appearing in the 2010 Official Missouri Travel Guide or live
on the VisitMO.com Website.

“Many travelers are looking to get better
value for their vacation dollar and as a result are choosing to travel closer to
home,” said R.B. “Bob” Smith, III, interim director, Missouri Division of
Tourism. “To ensure that travelers are fully aware of all that Missouri has to
offer, we are encouraging our industry partners to submit their listings for the
Travel Guide and the VisitMO.com Website.”

Smith said that the Missouri
Division of Tourism’s Website received more than a million “hits” last year and
they aim at doubling the number this year, making the site a popular portal for
consumers seeking information about affordable vacations in the Show-Me
State.

Earlier this year, the division sponsored educational seminars for
its industry partners to help destinations and attractions not only take
advantage of free programs through the Division of Tourism, but also on ways to
leverage social media and other technologies to reach out to prospective
visitors.
